Assess your cardiovascular risk with a comprehensive lipid panel β total cholesterol, LDL, HDL, VLDL, and triglycerides. 9β12 hour fast required.
A Lipid Profile Test (also called a Lipid Panel or Cholesterol Test) measures the different types of fats circulating in your blood. These include total cholesterol, LDL (Low-Density Lipoprotein β "bad cholesterol"), HDL (High-Density Lipoprotein β "good cholesterol"), VLDL (Very Low-Density Lipoprotein), and Triglycerides. Together, they provide a detailed picture of your cardiovascular risk.
Heart disease is the leading cause of death in India. High LDL cholesterol and triglycerides, combined with low HDL, significantly increase the risk of atherosclerosis (plaque buildup in arteries), heart attack, and stroke. The alarming reality is that high cholesterol has no symptoms β you feel completely fine until a cardiac event occurs. Regular lipid profile testing from age 20 onwards is the only way to detect this silent risk.
| Parameter | Optimal | Borderline | High Risk |
|---|---|---|---|
| Total Cholesterol | Below 200 mg/dL | 200β239 mg/dL | 240+ mg/dL |
| LDL Cholesterol | Below 100 mg/dL | 130β159 mg/dL | 160+ mg/dL |
| HDL Cholesterol | Above 60 mg/dL | 40β59 mg/dL | Below 40 mg/dL |
| Triglycerides | Below 150 mg/dL | 150β199 mg/dL | 200+ mg/dL |
| VLDL | 2β30 mg/dL | β | Above 30 mg/dL |
| LDL/HDL Ratio | Below 3.5 | 3.5β5.0 | Above 5.0 |
A 9β12 hour overnight fast is required for an accurate lipid profile, especially triglycerides. Water is permitted. Avoid alcohol 24 hours before the test. Avoid strenuous exercise the day before. Timing your test for early morning (7β9 AM) makes fasting most comfortable. Do not discontinue any medications before the test unless specifically advised by your doctor.
